During its Anniversary Event on 11 May 2017, SMK, the Dutch environmental quality label (Milieukeur) foundation, introduced a new name for its label: on the way to PlanetProof, so that it can also be applied internationally for potatoes, fruit and vegetables. The new name emphasises that sustainability is a continuous process of improvement, the end station being production methods that are in balance with our living environment.
We have started a pilot project, together with one of our retail customers, so that in the coming season, some of the hard fruit grown in the Netherlands will be in the shops bearing this quality label. We have also received a request from another retailer to draw up a list of Dutch and European growers who have already implemented the Milieukeur/PlanetProof label, and how the growers regard such an implementation.
We will inform you as soon as our Quality & Environment department has further information on developments regarding the change of name and on attaining this label.
