From now on, Staay Food Group can supply melons from Rainforest Alliance-certified farms throughout the overseas season. This represents an important step by the Papendrecht-based melon specialist in making its range even more sustainable. In addition to the complete harvest from Costa Rica (February - May), Brazilian melons from Staay's own DULCE brand are now available with this sustainable label (September - February).
Earlier this year, one of Staay's cultivation partners in Brazil, Mata Fresca, successfully underwent the audit that makes it possible to label its melons with the well-known Rainforest Alliance quality label. Staay Food Group can now supply the varieties of Galia, Cantaloupe, yellow and watermelon (seedless and quetzali) with the sustainable certification of tropical products.
The Rainforest Alliance is the international nonprofit organization that works to conserve biodiversity and promote the rights and welfare of workers, their families and communities. The Rainforest Alliance Certified seal means that farmers are required to follow more sustainable agricultural practices that promote safe working conditions, sustainable livelihoods, care for the environment and nature conservation. It can be found on products such as coffee, tea, fruit and more.
