Frequently asked questions

What is the best way to store apples and pears?

Apples stay good the longest in the fridge. The same applies to pears but then they do not ripen. They are therefore best kept in a fruit bowl.

What is the fastest way to ripen a pear?

Fruit naturally emits ethylene gas. The ethylene gas causes the fruit to ripen, so this is also true for pears. Putting the pears in a sealed bag retains the gas and speeds up the ripening process.

How many varieties of apples are there?

There are about 7,000 varieties of apple. Each apple variety has its own unique flavour and appearance, so apples can be processed and used in a versatile way.

How can you tell when a pear is ripe?

Find out the Conference pear's ripeness by gently pressing the flesh around the stalk. If the flesh yields slightly at this spot, the fruit is ripe. If the flesh is very soft at this spot, the pear is overripe.
